As I sit here on New Year’s Eve 2017, with two kids down with the stomach flu and praying I don’t get it as well, I am thinking about this past year.
2017 was a big suckfest for a lot of reasons, most of them political. I am trying to stay positive that some big changes are coming in a better direction for 2018. (I’m looking to you, Mueller!) I mean, I never thought I’d be watching The Handmaid’s Tale and thinking, “um, this could happen”. Scary times, my friends.
It has also been a strange year for me personally. I closed my business,
sold my house and moved, and have been floundering in a “now what?” state for months. I was feeling fairly unaccomplished and meh about it until I really started to look back and found some amazing highlights and life changing moments.
Going to the Women’s March with my family and friends was a significant moment for all of us and one we’re not likely to forget.
Visiting Japan for the first time with my friend Robert was an unexpected thrill.
Going on a college road trip with this girl was quite an adventure!
…and one in San Francisco.
Violet had an art show at school and then took an intensive photography course at UCLA over the summer.
Beckett performed Shakespeare and cracked us up!
We all enjoyed having a pool for the first time in our lives.
I got to see Mira work her butt off as part of the Cross Country team.
I got to do some decorating in our new house.
We threw a rockin’ Halloween Party!
And I made a variety of stuff.
So not a complete waste of a year after all.
In 2018 I am looking forward to working hard on my fitness, trying new quilting designs, more travel, and family time. I have also signed up for an orientation to volunteer with 826LA.
What are your reflections from last year? What exciting things are you looking forward to in the new year?
Here’s to a productive and revolutionary 2018!
